Well, thousands of lives could soon be saved after Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser awarded new statewide grants. Ag Weiser awarded $3 million to provide nonprofits across the state with free NARCAN, the medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, there has been nearly 2,000 deaths caused by drug overdoses in the past 20 years. Deaths that may have been preventable with access to NARCAN.

It enables us to have a more readily supply for patients that are in need, because it’s a very expensive medication. And if it’s readily available, people will be more apt to use it to prevent them from having further issues. And I think that’s a good thing.
